Wow!
“Man! At times, I had to remind myself in between the movie that this was actually a movie.” You will hear comments like this regarding this movie.
Here’s what I personally liked about the movie:
- The main character’s girlfriend (Odette Yustman) is cute.
- The storyline is amazing, how the story is led from a farewell party to the thrilling part as you already must have heard about this movie. Yes, the movie is about a monster invading the New York City, but this is not just ‘one another monster’ movie, not an another Godzilla movie.
- The concentration of the movie is more on how the monster impacts people’s emotions than on how the monster looks.
- Things are quite unexpected and the director succeeded in making this movie give me few WTF shocks as movies of this genre are expected to.
- This thrilling movie is made even better due to the funny remarks of the in-movie cameraman, Hudd.
- The movie feels less like a movie and more like a live documentary.
- The CGI effects are so CGI that it does not keep on reminding you that it is CGI. Yeah, this sounds lame, but you’ll know what I am saying when you watch this movie in a theater. Mark the emphasis on theater, if you really want to spend on something worthwhile. Very few movies, this is one of them, make me think that I couldn’t have enjoyed/appreciated that movie on my computer or TV.
- The cameram(a/e)n’s skill and art of shooting the whole movie to look as if been shot using a cheapo handycam; when in fact the movie is shot using Sony’s CineAlta F23.
- The monster is interesting looking.
- … and more which you could add in the comments.
While the whole movie is made to look as if it were captured by a handycam, and just as a normal person would be expected to shoot in case a real monster attacked the NYC, a petty little thing remained in my mind at the end of the movie…. What handycam, that has such any amazing resolution, can shoot for 8 hours straight without changing the battery? :D
That’s all folks, make sure not to miss this movie.
