The solution to this problem was simple. I’ve over 50 passwords saved in Firefox and was disappointed for a minute when Google Chrome did not import the passwords from Firefox to Chrome even though it supported this feature of importing passwords.
Then I realized the reason: The password importing won’t work if your have a ‘Master Password’ set in Firefox. Unset this master password and then retry importing the passwords. It will surely work.
Google rocks! I love Chrome and it’s still only version 0.2 :)
Update:
Please mention in the comment section if you are using an Alpha version of Firefox and importing passwords to Chrome does not work.
I’ve had the experience that Chrome imported my FF3 settings and passwords on my laptop, but on my desktop it will only import IE settings. I have the same version of FF3 on my desktop as my laptop, so I have no idea why Chrome wont import my FF3 settings / bookmarks / passwords on my desktop.
@Jacob: So you mean to say that while importing, instead of showing a drop-down menu containing both IE and Firefox, you see just IE? When I was importing, the default browser shown was IE and I had to bring down the drop-down and select Firefox. Trying doing that if it somehow missed your notice.
I use Firefox, Opera, and IE, but I didn’t get any option when importing. It just started imported and then said it was done importing.
It imported my Firefox bookmarks but not passwords :(
And no I don’t have a master password set.
Any ideas? I’m using Firefox 3.1alpha1 and Chrome 0.2.149.29
If you could e-mail me at azumao (AT) gmail (DOT) com with how I can import them it would be greatly appreciated.
it will be interesting to see if Chrome can get as much market share as Firefox; for now they seem to have leveled off…
Importing of passwords does not work with Firefox v3.5b99!!!
