Tour To Tanglewood

This year (this weekend) I am biking for a fund-raising event organized by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

It’s an approx 45-mile cycle ride from Volvo Trucks (7900 National Service Rd, Greensboro, NC 27409) to Tanglewood Park on Sat Sep 6; and same way back on Sun Sep 7.  That’s my part of the job. :)

I am also raising some funds which will go into research for the cure of MS and betterment of MS patients.  For that second part of the job, I need the help of you guys.  I initial goal was just $200 and with the help of many friends, as of now the donation on my behalf had reached $235!

Before you donate, here is some information on Multiple Sclerosis, a brief understand of what this disease actually is.

What is MS? [1] [2]

We all know that our bodies have an electrical circuit, our nervous system.  Just as electrical wiring need insulators, so do the nerves.  The nerves have an insulating fatty substance called Myelin [3] [4].  MS causes the body defense to attack Myelin sheaths around nerves which can cause damage to nerves, interference in nerve conduction, and many things.  Taking from the MS site, the symptoms of this disease are fatigue, numbness, walking/balance problems, bladder/bowel/sexual dysfunction, vision, dizziness, depression,… and the list goes on.  Basically whatever the brain does, whatever the nerves help in doing that, is affected as signal conduction from the brain is affected.

As of now there is no cure for MS.  All we can do is do more research in this area to get a cure and provide alleviating medication and emotional support to the patients.  The National MS Society does this and in order to get better at that, it organizes events such as this one.

To know more about MS,if you’ve not already clicked, you can click on the hyper-links 1 to 4 above.

You can contribute as much or as little as you want by going to this page: http://main.nationalmssociety.org/site/TR?px=4431564&pg=personal&fr_id=9011 and clicking on “Donate to Kaushal”.

Just note that donating even $5 with not only add something to donation pool, but will also add a warm fuzzy feeling to your heart. :)
